The Kazakh-Lithuanian transport and logistics cooperation was discussed in the port of Klaipeda
As part of the ongoing work to promote the Kazakhstan transport and logistics potential, as well as deepening cooperation with the Lithuanian regions, on February 5-6, 2017, the Embassy paid a working visit to the Lithuanian port city of Klaipeda.
Following the results of 2017, Klaipeda Port became the leader among the Baltic ports in terms of container handling.
During the visit, a familiarization meeting was held with the largest logistics concern of the port – the stevedore company KLASCO.
In order to attract the logistics cluster of the port to the joint transport and logistics projects the business forum “Kazakhstan and the New Silk Road” was organized in the administration of the port of Klaipeda.
During the forum, the Embassy made a presentation of the transit-transport potential of Kazakhstan – information is provided on the dynamic growth of transcontinental transportations, the opportunities that Kazakhstan infrastructure projects represent to increase the flow of cargo between Europe and Asia. In this context, much attention was paid to the coverage of the implementation of the state program “Nurly Zhol – The Way to the Future”, the further development of the International Center for Cross-Border Cooperation “Khorgos – Eastern Gate” and its investment opportunities, the activities of the Kazakhstan terminal in Lianyungang Port.
As an additional opportunity for Kazakh-Lithuanian business cooperation, it was noted the need for the implementation, set by the Head of our state in his address to the people of Kazakhstan, “New Opportunities for Development in the Context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution”, the tasks of large-scale introduction of digital technologies to improve the efficiency of the Kazakhstan transport and logistics infrastructure.
In turn, the Lithuanian side noted a number of issues and plans regarding the Kazakh-Lithuanian transport and logistics cooperation. In particular, the Embassy was acquainted with the modernization of the port and new opportunities within the special economic zone, as well as with the port plans for the organization of the Kazakh-Lithuanian business forum.
