Latvia signed the agreement on participation in the EXPO 2017
September 2, commissioner EXPO 2017 Rapil Zhoshybayev in Riga signed the Agreement on the participation of the Latvia in the international specialized exhibition “EXPO-2017” with the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, the National Commissioner of the section responsible for the participation of Latvia in the “EXPO-2017” Janis Endzinsh.
The ceremony of signing the document was attended by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Baurzhan Mukhamedzhanov, Minister of Transport, co-chairman of the Kazakh-Latvian IPC – Uldis Augulis, high representatives Bureau Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Latvia, as well as media representatives.
During the conducted bilateral meetings R. Zhoshybayev spoke about the preparations for the forthcoming exhibition on the theme of “Energy of the Future.” He gave an interview to the media in Latvia.
The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and scientific spheres, including in the field of “green” technologies, and broad participation of Latvian companies in the international exhibition, Latvia promising projects in the field of renewable and alternative energy sources.
Latvia aims by 2020 to become the greenest country in the world, expresses its readiness to cooperate with Kazakhstan in the field of “green economy”, clean technologies. The share of renewable energy in final energy consumption in Latvia was 37.1%, becoming the second highest rate in the European Union after Sweden (52.1%).
In Astana, Latvia wishes to emphasize the advantages of the geographical location of the country, as well as the ability of Latvian companies to produce products with high added value.
In this regard, the conceptual name of the Latvian stand will be heard, “the meeting place Latvia – energy is in our nature» (Meeting Point Latvia – Energy is in our Nature).
Latvia is not a member of the International Exhibitions Bureau and a few times took part in the Expo. Confirmation of participation in EXPO 2017 shows a high level of interest and special friendly relations of Latvia to Kazakhstan, celebrated in Riga.
Latvia is one of the first countries to support the initiative of President Nursultan Nazarbayev on the establishment of a partnership program “Green Bridge” by signing the Charter on the program.
Latvia became the 70th country to sign the Treaty of participation in the EXPO-2017. To date, 98 countries and 17 international organizations have officially confirmed their participation in the Astana exhibition.
