Presentation of Abai’s book
On August 17, Daugavpils University hosted the presentation of the great Kazakh thinker Abai “Words of edification”, for the first time translated into the Latvian language. On the presentation were attended the city governments, academic stuff of the University, cultural workers, representatives of local writers’ organizations and Latvian mass media.
The ambassador of Kazakhstan Baurzhan Mukhamejanov spoke about Abai the writer and poet, and his contribution to the culture of his country and thanked the audience for their interest in the work of the great thinker.
At the presentation, the chairman of the Daugavpils City Council, Andrejs Elksnins noted that the presentation of the book is a landmark event, giving a new impetus to the development of bilateral relations in the field of culture and education. The mayor noted that Latvia has Garlieb Merkel, who in his work “Latvians”, like Abai in Kazakhstan, revealed the essence of the nation. Andrejs Elksnins expressed hope that Merkels’ work will be translated into Kazakh language, which will serve as a continuation of cultural exchange between our countries.
