Kazakhstan and Lithuania are interested in expanding areas of mutual cooperation

The Minister for Investment and Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zhenis Kasymbek, met with Lithuanian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Vytautas Nauduzhas.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of investment cooperation, development of transport and logistics infrastructure, transit transport, as well as interaction in the field of civil aviation.

Zhenis Kasymbek noted the high dynamics of development of bilateral relations in recent years between countries, the growth of transit traffic by 27.1% by rail between Kazakhstan and Lithuania. He also invited Lithuanian companies to take an active part in the implementation of the transit potential of the two countries within the framework of the One-Way-One-Way initiative.

Positive dynamics is maintained in the current year, only in January transit traffic increased by 2 times. In January 2018, the volume of transported goods by rail transit amounted to 15.53 thousand tons, an increase of 9.67 thousand tons in comparison with the same period in 2017 (5.86 thousand tons).

In his turn, Ambassador Vytautas Nauduzas noted that the countries intend to further strengthen trade and economic ties and expand the spheres of mutual cooperation.

For the year of 2017, the trade turnover between the countries increased by more than 2 times (122.7%) as compared to 2016 ($ 324.4 million) and amounted to $ 722.3 million. The export of Kazakhstan to Lithuania increased almost 2.5 times (130%) and amounted to 554.3 million US dollars compared to 2016 (240.9 million US dollars). Since May 27, 2018, the Kazakhstan airline SCAT plans to open a new air service Astana-Vilnius (flights will be carried out twice a week on Thursdays and Sundays on the type of VS-Boing737).
