Kazakhstan and Latvia develop transit transport potential

On September 28-29, the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin paid a working visit to Riga.

During the visit, Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis and Askar Mamin took part in the opening of a new container service in transcontinental transport between China and Europe. On September 29, the route of the sent container train from Urumchi (China), which will pass through the territories of Kazakhstan, Russia and Latvia, then via the port of Riga to the port of Rotterdam by sea.

The opening of new routes, the diversification of transport routes, the optimal use of the railway infrastructure, as well as the implementation of a flexible tariff policy will allow to maintain the dynamics of container traffic growth in the direction from China to Europe, and from Europe back to China and with the potential of transporting 200,000 containers through the Baltic region.

In general, the result of a number of marketing events, the volume of export-import traffic between Kazakhstan and Latvia grew by 19%, and transit traffic increased by 34%.

During the conversation with the President of Latvia there were discussed the prospects of activating trade and economic cooperation between the countries.

In particular, Kazakhstan is interested in bilateral interaction in terms of information, space spheres and in the development of “green technologies”.

The First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted that his visit is a direct continuation of the contacts between the leaders of the two countries, a new impetus that has been given a working visit of the President of Latvia to Kazakhstan on July 9-10, 2017.
