A delegation of Almaty akimat visited Riga to participate in the Latvian-Kazakh business forum
A delegation of Almaty akimat visited Riga to participate in the Latvian-Kazakh business forum. The platform was attended by over 70 delegates – representatives of various Industries.
The business forum gathered a solid list of companies and enterprises from Latvia and Kazakhstan and once again confirmed the parties’ interest in strengthening and developing trade and economic relations. Only last year the trade turnover between the countries amounted to about 100 million US dollars. Now in Latvia there are about 200 enterprises with Kazakhstan capital, and in our country – over fifty with Latvia. But, as the participants in the business meeting say, this is not the limit. The two countries have great development potential.
Vladimir Samoylenko, representative of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency:
– Kazakhstan is a promising country, I know that there are few Latvian products, it is necessary to somehow work our entrepreneurs more actively to realize these opportunities, and there are plenty of them, they are simply very much. With whom do not say – everyone wants. We have transport and textile industry here, we have IT people, guys who are engaged in packaging materials, metal structures, Jelgava Engineering Plant here, seaport, Ventspils – I see representatives here. All spheres.
Strong friendship traditionally links the sister cities of Riga and Almaty, between which an agreement on trade, economic and scientific and technical cooperation has been in effect for almost 20 years. Positive dynamics was observed last year.
Ganibet Aubakirov, deputy. Head of Enterprise and IT Department Almaty:
– The cooperation of the two cities by analogy with 2016, we have increased by 10%. This is already a good result, interregional cooperation gives effects. Now we are ready to expand cooperation and business activities, in part, as we have already said, we are interested in the food industry, pharma – for Almaty it is necessary.
In late April, a direct air link will be opened between Riga and Almaty. This will give a powerful impetus to bilateral relations between countries.
Maxim Tolstoy, the deputy of the Riga thought:
“We will finally be able to fly directly to each other.” In this regard, we will have a tourist exhibition in Kazakhstan, in which we will participate. A trade mission of the countries of the Asian region from Kazakhstan flies to us in April. As part of the first flight, we are planning a business forum, we are planning an official delegation of the mayor of Riga in Almaty. That is, the beginning is very good, therefore, within our jubilees – the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia and the 20th anniversary of the city of Astana, we should have good and festive events, but at the same time business ones.
Kazakhstan for Latvia is an important economic and strategic partner in the Central Asian region. In confirmation of this, the Riga City Hall is preparing a return visit to Almaty, which will take place in two months.
